I’ll smoke a long cigar
Have a thick red steak
Drink a swig of bourbon
It’s been a fine day
So I flick my Ash
With a happy friendly expression
As I put on my

On my big day

This is the first tobacco ash I’ve seen tonight! I like the character you’ve created here – he’s really enjoying life, isn’t he?
It has to be a he.

You’ve painted a portrait and an exuberant feeling very well here. It makes me wonder what his big day is all about.

Thanks Lisa. To explain I unfortunately need more than forty four words

You’re welcome. It was more of a rhetorical question…

This is a joyful post….a very different side of the word “ash” from all other posts. But I must admit, I abhor cigars and their smell….but as a word in a poem, with no odor attached, I can see the joy in it!

Thanks. Somehow cigars don’t bother me . I can even enjoy them but I can’t handle cigarettes

Nicely concocted. Pleasant, affable, hopeful – there’s a charming juxtaposition to what usually brings to mind ash. A delight.

Thanks. Ash goes completely against that kind of an image

Connected with this so easily. Life events are often memories of ash, the cigars of birth, marriage. I remember my father’s well.

Nice atmospheric piece: who could deny this man such treats on his big day?

I want to be this guy, Larry! Except I prefer my steak medium well… not red.
