It was 3:00 a.m. so, as always, a poor soul from Purgatory woke me quietly
humbly and meekly begging for suffrages
‘give me 153 Ave Maria’s, each time I visit, please
one full Rosary for each of nine mornings
daily my anonymous friend would give me his gentle nudge
‘the Immaculata demands it,’ said he, ‘and you promised to obey Her every wish’.
when he appears completely clean, someone else takes his place
i love the positive twist you placed here, very well crafted.

You just carried back to my high school days when I danced begrudgingly with Catholicism

Lotta of those damn folks in Purgatory. Always knocking at the door middle of the night. Can’t get any peace.

Have you been reading Dante again? I’m reading a book right now called, “Lincoln in the Bardo” by George Saunders. Abe’s young son, Willie, passes away and finds himself in the Bardo. Excellent book!
