The Clowns

I went to the circus last night and ~

now I know why they sent in the clowns

a marching band walked in parade through the street~

with a panoply of clowns playing assorted instruments

~~~~~~

my next door neighbors are mimes ~

and they are jealous of clowns

~~~~

the stars in the skies at night change colors~

until the clowns allow them to stop

~~~~~~~

the clock always strikes twelve only for some reason~

this may be the clowns’ most important hour
