A Very Sad Memory

‘I’m ascared,’ Toby told Jeanine.

‘Why?’ she asked.

‘Monday was Ronald De Feo’s birthday,’ he said ,’and we live so close to Amityville. I was a high school sophomore when those murders happened.’

‘Do you think our blown fuse proves his ghost is out to get you ? she said.

The De Feo kids and I went to the same high school,’ he said.

‘It’s amazing’, she said, ‘what a grown man can do with one insignificant misfortune, combined with an irrelevant long ago local milestone.’

Welcome back to Rochelle Wisoff~Fields’ weekly Wednesday Friday Fictioneers (double alliteration), for which she has this week supplied our hep photo prompt. Our Froggy welcomes you.

Your use of “ascared” had me thinking the character was a child, so I had to go back and read it again to get the full impact. Glad I did. Great story told in a snippet of conversation.
