Weekend Writing Prompt #263- Vernacular

Ever since their having founded the new country they were required to make all sorts of arrangements for laws, traditions, customs, among other things.

Having decided upon a codified system of laws, they agreed to have it all written out in Latin, accompanied by an official translation in the Vernacular.

‘This way,’ the prime minister told his assistants, ‘we can avoid unnecessary tower of Babel moments.’

‘The truth,’ he said, ‘is carved in marble, though we have to be flexible. Law and order must, at all times, respect mankind’s freedom.’
