I’ve just read about a chance meeting, in 1955, between Sir Alec Guinness and James Dean. On the night of September 23, 1955, Guinness and Thelma Moss were trying to find a restaurant where they could dine.
Dean approached them and asked them to join him. On their way to a restaurant, he showed the couple his Porsche 550 Spyder. At the time it was wrapped in cellophane and tied with a ribbon. for some reason, Guinness said, Please, never get in it.’ I looked at my watch. ‘It is now ten o’clock, Friday the 23rd of September, 1955. If you get in that car, you will be found Dead in it by this time next week.’
Dean, laughing, said, ‘Oh, shucks! Don’t be so mean!’” The next day, Dean drove his car, which he called ‘The Little Bastard.’. We all know about his infamous accident unfortunately. For him there was no Tomorrow. On October 27th of that year, Dean’s movie ‘Rebel Without A Cause’ was released, assuring him a permanent posthumous Glory.
