The Lure Of Youth

Regularly I passed the carnival tent

Which was always notorious for the scent

Of such delightful Peanuts And Popcorn

‘Be ten forever, only a quarter,’

The barker would always intone happily

Nightly I would see people approach

The tent in hopes of childhood

In the distance I would always

Hear solemn funeral bells pealing

At the local parish church
