Resurrection Mary

Young Mary, lovely blue eyed blondie,

And her boyfriend,

Were dancing at

The Oh Henry Ballroom

In Willow Springs, Illinois.

They got into a fight

And she stormed out

Running away on Archer Avenue,

Where she was killed

By a hit and run driver.

Her parents buried her

In Resurrection Graveyard,

In Justice, Illinois,

In a beautiful white

Dancing dress and gloves

And matching white

Dancing shoes.

Have you seen her?

Folks say she has long since

Been seen walking the local streets,

All clad in anachronistic white,

Haunting local night clubs,

Getting romantically involved

With unsuspecting young men.

She treats each prospective suitor

To a dance and a kiss,

And accepts a ride in his car

And they always go back

To Resurrection Graveyard.

I love the legend of Resurrection Mary. I think I wrote something about it within the last year. Loved your poem. Do you ever drive on Resurrectioin Road?

      Thanks. I’ve only been to
Chicago once, unfortunately, and didn’t get a chance to see anything in that neighborhood. I first heard of her on the T.V. show, ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ so very long ago.
