Let’s drink our egg nog and forget
The moment when we two first met.
More Jubliant days lie ahead
Our yearning for them we must whet.
So let us have our daily bread
And bide our time for now instead
Of cringing over our stark past
When we first walked where evil led.
We’ll sail our ship with noble mast
And hope this moment will avast
For it is an unwelcome churl
Which struck with an unwelcome blast.
Quite unlike a fair lovely girl
Or jade or ivory or pearl
Neither archduke nor prince nor earl
Can withstand this most noisome whirl.
I got the idea, for this one, to write a Rubaiyat, based upon Robert Frost’s ‘Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening’.
