‘Fourth grade is tough,’ Fred said. ‘We have to learn about fractions and South America. I wonder if they have that stupid pathetic in South America.’

‘Pathetic what?’ his mother asked.

‘The disease everybody has,’ he said.

‘You mean pandemic,’ she replied.

‘Do they have it there?’ he wondered.

‘Yes,’ she chided him carefully. ‘So don’t bother to go there if you ever run away from home.’
