Colm and Gráinne were driving to her parents’ house for their weekly Sunday visit.
‘There was a time I used to enjoy these trips,’ he said.
‘Now they’re always such a chore.’
Upon entering the family’s handsome homestead, they were greeted by antique tea kettles, offbeat, anachronistic trinkets, and predictably forced comments.
‘So Dad,’ Gráinne said, ‘It’s finally a one way street now?’
‘Haven’t you noticed, Sweetheart,’ the father replied, ‘We’ve been one way for the past four years?’
The afternoon and evening progressed quite quietly, with the couples’ often being genuinely shocked at each other’s interests and preferences.
