On my right I saw Franciscans
Holding a sign with their motto,
‘Pax Et Bonum’, And Dominicans
Holding a sign with their motto, ‘Veritas’ .
To my left I saw, separated from them
By an unimaginably huge abyss,
Infinitely insatiably enraged
Dogs, rodents, and all other manner of creatures,
Each held bound by a very short leash.
Men and women from all walks of life
Were given a choice
Of which road to take across the abyss.
It was difficult to tell which way to go
Since the road toward the left
Was often fragrant and lovely,
And the road toward the right was
Frequently difficult and ordinary.
So many go the wrong way.
