Life With A Soundtrack

During moments of crisis or trauma,

I hear ominous foreboding background music,

Suitably threatening and dire.

During moments of elation or joy,

I hear happy cheerful background music,

As if to ask me spontaneously to dance to it.

Suspense and anticipation, too,

Every ready to have their mood enhanced

In proportion to their gravity,

Come with their own musical accompaniment.

Often there’s music for a fine meal

With enchanting company,

Allowing for ease of conversation.

I don’t know where it all comes from.

Is it somehow spontaneously inspired

By some completely unseen muse?
