Dirty Window

I keep all my memories,

Welcome and unwelcome,

In my backyard.

I go about

My daily rounds,

Chores and meals.

I can’t avoid

Seeing the condition

My window is in.

Artifacts of previous worlds

Both within

And out of reach.

Often I get lazy.

‘My window doesn’t

Yet need cleaning’.

Outside right now

Welcome and unwelcome

Through my dusty foggy window.

I see a photo

Of young me

So handsome and so glad.

That face departed long ago

Often peering through my window

Welcome and unwelcome.
