The Cars

I see Mr. and Mrs. Finbar are having a lot of parties lately,” Herb told Blanche.

“How do you know?” she asked.

“Haven’t you noticed,” he said, “That whenever they’re partying a lot, that wild, exotic vehicle always shows up, though it has no connnection to their parties?”

“Amazingly,” she said, “I’ve also seen a dull grey Packard in town only when they’re quiet and not doing much.”

“Yeah,” said he.  “It’s pert near as if they’re being followed around by the automotive equivalent of a mood ring.”

They continued to watch the bus travel down the road.
