It’s A True Story

It’s the Fourth of July weekend, 1974, in Hilldale, Pennsylvania. My cousin Gary and I, at seventeen and fourteen years old, aren’t exactly the most prudent of youngsters.

Having run out of stupid jokes to tell, and full from all the food, we mooch Uncle Rego’s mini~bike and  take it for a ride.  Immediately after having filled it with gasoline from one of those big  red cans, Gary insists upon driving.

Unfortunately we must have forgotten to make sure the brakes worked.  There are a lot of places there, where we’re still not welcome.
